Here is the heart that he drew, cut out, and decorated for his teacher. He wanted to go out and buy a gift of candy for his new teacher, but I told him that we needed to wait for a holiday or special day for the gift. He conceded and was okay with just the heart. What a thoughtful little boy I have.
And here he was anxiously awaiting to leave the house.
Here Cameron was at the front door posing next to the picture he drew of Kirby from the Wii game Kirby's Epic Yarn.
So, the principal told us we could just drop him off and he would find his way to his new room. Really, I thought? He can't tell you what grade he is in, doesn't know his teacher's name, and it is a new school from last year. When I got to work, my co-worker asked me how the drop-off went this morning. I explained to him that I dropped Cameron off and hoped for the best. My co-worker couldn't believe that I didn't walk my little 5 year-old into the gym and direct him where to go. This is what he did and supposedly all the "caring" parents. I am so proud of Cameron. He was able to communicate, in French, to the adults to find his way to the correct classroom! I find that pretty amazing. I'm not sure if I could have done that. And, he is definitely already back in French mode. When he came home from school and played the Wii for a few minutes, he started talking to me in French asking me to play with him. It's crazy how his little brain works!
Mohamed needed one last hug before sending him off.
He found this employee to help guide him along.
This was a picture of Emmersyn when we went to pick up Cameron this afternoon. Her big day is tomorrow.
The pick up is a bit crazy. It amounts to a couple mile walk and then a crazy hand off (literally from principal to parent) in the gym. They are in the process of implementing a kiss-and-ride to make things run a bit smoother. Hopefully it will be done really soon.
Wish us luck for tomorrow with the first day of Montessori. Hopefully it will be as successful as today!
Wow! Cameron did really great. I can't believe how excited he was for his first day at a new school and that he wasn't shy about going into the school alone without either you or Mohamed. Très bien! Super!
ReplyDeleteCameron is getting so tall and he looks so confident as he waits at the door to head out to his new school.
I am glad he had a great first day experience, and hope that he will have a great school year ahead of him.
Can't wait for you to blog Emmersyn's first day at Montessori.
