So today is Civic Holiday here in Canada. And, to educate myself on all of these Canadian holidays that we don't celebrate in the States (Family Day is another) I thought I would do a bit of research. Who knows, this might be a question on the Canadian citizenship test. This is what I found out... "
The date of the Civic Holiday is historically linked to the abolition of slavery in the British Empire, but was chosen primarily for its timing: between Canada Day and Labour Day there were no recognizable holidays, one of the longest stretches on the Canadian calendar without a holiday." How interesting, eh? Canada needed to throw in a holiday because there was one month in the calender year without a holiday. So, why not choose the first day of the month that has no holiday and make it a holiday. These Canadians LOVE their holidays.
Anyway, we took advantage of the beautiful weather on this holiday and did some playing outside. But first, check out the new birthday outfits the kids are modeling off.
